Constant reinvention is the self-imposed challenge placed on superstar chef Grant Achatz of the Alinea Group. At his restaurant Next, a new theme is explored every few months, with past menus including 'Ancient Rome', 'Silk & Spice' and 'World's 50 Best'. The website is the place to go for details of the forthcoming menus, each one an experience to be had which will never be repeated. Along with the unique menus, every iteration brings different decor, uniforms, tableware, cutlery and even music. Choose to sit in the dining room, which is the heart of the action, or at a table with a view of the kitchen, or larger groups can have the private room. Either way, this is dining as theatre, each dish elegantly served using innovative, quirky or playful props, delicate spoons of bites and never before seen concoctions that have made diners weep with nostalgia and pleasure.
