Bestia
Los Angeles, US
It's hard to imagine a more well-rounded Italian restaurant than Bestia. There are excellent pizzas, wood-fired and blistered around the edges, platters of world-class salumi cured in-house, handmade pastas, grilled whole fish and gargantuan dry-aged steaks. In this soaring warehouse space, all exposed brick, steel beams and concrete, Ori Menashe oversees the savoury food, while his wife Genevieve Gergis is the mastermind in charge of the pastry kitchen where the desserts are crying out for a mention. Lavender poached apricot crostata, summer forest frozen torte, cornmeal maple ricotta fritters... The festoon-lit courtyard is the place to sample the cocktails, with names like Suffer No Fool, Cheap Sunglasses, Personality Crisis and Definitely Maybe reflecting the not-taking-itself-too-seriously nature of the place. One of the most popular restaurants in Los Angeles, for good reason.
