Damian

Los Angeles, US

Most things chef Enrique Olvera touches turn to gold. See his flagship restaurant Pujol, in Mexico City, which graces the upper echelons of The World's 50 Best Restaurants list on the regular. Or New York's Cosme, also on the list. Damian is Cosme's 'twin brother' in Downtown LA. Offering stylish cuisine founded on Mexican culture and influenced by the foodways of the Pacific coast, along with easy Southern Californian hospitality, it's a winner for locals and visitors alike. The industrial, concrete dining room is warmed up by soft-hued furnishings, verdant greenery and, of course, Olvera's bright cuisine. Championing local produce, the menu plays a game of surf and turf. A high-end spin on pollito al pastor sits aside delicately plated ceviche with ginger turnip relish and green tomato; zucchini tlayudas with cheese is followed by corn husk meringue with totomoxtle. This is exciting food in an inviting Golden State space.
