Young Joni is Korean-born chef Ann Kim's third restaurant in Minneapolis, named after her mother and mother-in-law, and follows the success of Pizzeria Lola and Hello Pizza, The restaurant interior is dominated by slick polished wood surfaces and vaulted ceilings, making for a seriously chic, but refreshingly unstuffy dining room. Like Kim's other venues, innovative pizza pies are also at the core of its menu, in addition to a selection of small and large plates, some of which have a distinctly Korean influence. like sweet potatoes with pickled fresno chillies, gochugaru, bonito and charred spring onion crème fraîche. As for the pizzas themselves, innovative international flavour combinations like the Umami Mama, topped with crimini, shiitake and portobello mushrooms, taleggio, fontina and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese plus soy and sesame and the Perfect Pickle Pie, which combines fermented pickles, mozzarella, fontina, smoked onions, chilli, ranch dressing, potato chips and dill. Gluten-free pizzas are also available on request.
