An institution that continues to make waves with its seafood-centric Italian offerings just across from Central Park. The ultra-luxe menu focuses on the dozen or so varieties of raw fish and shellfish in the Crudo section of the menu each day; Marea’s answer to Japanese sashimi. But what many come here for is the staggering selection of spectacular house-made pastas. The signature fusilli with red wine braised octopus and bone marrow, and the casarecce served under a mountain of crab meat and sea urchin are both much talked-about. Desserts range from your classic tiramisu to creative gelati flavours and excellent cheeses for true connoisseurs. But while the cuisine stays rooted in Italy, wine selections hail from countries as far-flung as Hungary, Slovenia and Argentina.
