Two exclusive fundraising dinners will be hosted next year in the beautiful mountain setting of Lake Tahoe, Nevada, giving fine dining aficionados a unique opportunity to taste chef Kyle Connaughton’s intricate cuisine while contributing to the recovery of the hospitality sector. Here’s how you can be part of it
Dining out for a good cause has just gotten better. Paul Grinberg – the man who famously ate at all venues on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list – is joining forces with Kyle and Katina Connaughton, the chef-and-farmer team behind Miele One To Watch restaurant SingleThread, to organise two out-of-this-world charity dinners in 2021 in support of the 50 Best for Recovery programme.
Hosted at Grinberg’s stunning property overlooking Lake Tahoe at the border between Nevada and California, the dinners will see chef Kyle Connaughton collaborate with hand-picked guest chefs and Sonoma winemakers to create an immersive experience for a small group of guests, complemented by fun activities and excursions organised and hosted by Grinberg.
Grinberg's house will be the setting for the unique meals
The fundraising dinners will take place on Sunday, 28th February, and Saturday, 10th July 2021. For the winter edition, Connaughton will be joined by The Willows Inn chef Blaine Wetzel to create a unique menu merging SingleThread’s focus on Sonoma’s bounty with Wetzel’s creative, wild-food focused outlook. Select wines will be provided by Ceritas, Reeve, Marine Layer and Lioco, some of the region’s eminent vintners. The next day, guests will embark on a skiing trip, mountain meetup and an après session at one of Tahoe’s top skiing resorts.
For the summer edition, chef Aitor Zabala of Somni will curate the 11-course menu alongside Connaughton. The cooks and winemakers will serve the first course out on the pristine waters of Lake Tahoe on a private boat (weather permitting). Grinberg, who was first introduced to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants after eating at El Celler de Can Roca and Mugaritz in Spain, will delight guests with tales from his journey eating at all 100 venues on the list, during which he travelled to over 150 cities in 40 countries.
Summer at Lake Tahoe
“I’m thrilled to be working with Kyle, Katina, Blaine, Aitor and some great winemakers to raise money for the hospitality industry, which has been so negatively impacted by the coronavirus,” says Grinberg. “Each dinner will be an evening to remember – delicious food, amazing wines, interactions with great chefs and winemakers in an intimate setting, helping so many who have been suffering during this crisis. What a great way to spend time – and money!”
Each dinner will be limited to just 24 seats, with bookings available for a donation of $3,500 per couple per dinner (which is tax deductible in the US). Reservations should be made through Tock and 100% of the funds raised will be donated to the Lee Initiative's Restaurant Reboot Relief Program and Black Urban Growers, two US-based charitable organisations selected by the 50 Best for Recovery programme as supporting restaurants and their staff while feeding the hungry during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are incredibly excited to partner with Paul and to cook with some extraordinary chefs and several of our favorite Sonoma winemakers for this incredible event,” say Kyle and Katina jointly. “We are proud to support The World's 50 Best Restaurants’ Recovery efforts and offer this once-in-a-lifetime event for an amazing cause.”
