El Salnés Gastro-Picantería

Quito, Ecuador

A modern, elegant twist on a traditional picantería, El Salnés serves delicious dishes using seasonal Ecuadorean ingredients and organic produce from creative chef Mauricio Acuña. The simple à la carte menu has starters such as paiche fish broth with forest mushrooms and mains such as country-style chicken or suckling pig, a house specialty. For a taste of everything, there’s an excellent value seven-course tasting menu at $30, or three set courses for just $15. The restaurant also specialises in homemade cold cuts like spicy chorizo. While the plant-filled dining room is relaxed and low-key, the dishes are works of art, with purple potatoes or pretty pink flowers making every dish pop.
