Hai Hai is a fun, laid-back tribute to Southeast Asian street food, incorporating a restaurant, bar and terrace. Overseen by chef Christina Nguyen, the menu draws on her Vietnamese heritage, with cooking showing some serious accomplishment which has garnered national media attention and a James Beard nomination. Dishes are also inspired by more recent trips to Asia, where Nguyen hunted out local specialities to broaden her knowledge of both flavour combinations and technique, which have been used to compile a menu of classic dishes and some brand-new twists. Plates include coconut shrimp toasts spiked with jalapeño, a take on classic Burmese lahpet AKA fermented tea leaf salad, Indonesian beef rendang and light, crispy Vietnamese crêpes, stuffed with pork belly and shrimp, or a vegan option of shiitake mushrooms and zucchini.
