- No.28 The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2021
Korean-American chef Corey Lee combines Korean and Chinese culinary traditions with Californian ingredients to create exciting contemporary cuisine with a twist. The winning combination helped Benu enter The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for the first time in 2019, and the restaurant has been racking up accolades since, housed in a historic building in San Francisco’s SoMa district. With more than 25 years' experience working in restaurants, Lee is no stranger to the upper echelons of dining, previously working as head chef at The French Laundry. The seasonal tasting menus at Benu are bold and daring, reflecting of-the-moment inspirations, with dishes like barbecued quail in a steamed bun or xiao long bao occupying starring roles. General manager Sinéad Quach oversees the award-winning wine and saké lists, which shine alongside the thoughtfully crafted cuisine.
