Restaurateur Nancy Oakes, a pioneer of Californian cuisine, deals in New American fine dining at Boulevard. The eatery is housed in a stunning Belle Epoque mansion that offers Bay Bridge vistas in San Francisco's upmarket Embarcadero district. Ken Fulk's art nouveau-esque interiors are more than worthy of a mention, richly layered with handmade wallpapers, vintage mirrors, bold prints and statement lights. That said, the flavours here live up to the flair of the decor. In the dining room, chef de cuisine Dana Younkin offers a set evening menu of three courses, with a sizeable choice ranging from lighter dishes of salmon carpaccio or ahi tartare to comforting plates of artichoke, truffle and nettle lasagne or roasted pearl hen with leek-braised hen sausage. Sit at the bar, chef's counter or in the lounge and you can go a la carte, though these areas are walk-in only.
