This year’s edition of 50 Best’s popular thought-leadership conference will feature a lively on-stage discussion on the challenges and opportunities of a new, more socially conscious restaurant era. At the Hyatt Regency hotel in Mérida, Latin America’s culinary experts – including David Hertz, entrepreneur and founder of the NGO, Gastromotiva; Debora Fadul, chef-owner of Guatemala City’s Diacá; and Maya cook Rosalia Chay Chuc, of Chef’s Table: BBQ fame – will share their wisdom on ethical sourcing, environmental sustainability and the power of food to unite.

As the first event in the programme, the Welcome Dinner will be a true celebration of Yucatán’s diverse gastronomy. The evening at K’u’uk restaurant in Mérida promises to be full of excitement, local specialities crafted by chef Pedro Evia and desserts created by former Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef Luis Robledo.

Chefs’ Feast

Reuniting in person for the first time since 2019, chefs and restaurant teams from across Latin America will come together the night before the awards ceremony in anticipation of the new list at the Chefs’ Feast at Chablé hotel in Yucatán.

Following last year’s special edition, the Pasado y Futuro retrospective ranking, Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 returns to its regular voting system. Votes were cast by an expanded panel of 300 gastronomy experts, restaurateurs and gourmets, who reflected on their favourite dining experiences over the past 18 months – so the region can expect an exciting and refreshed post-pandemic list. Three special award winners were announced in the lead-up to the new list. Brazilian Manoella ‘Manu’ Buffara was named Latin America’s Best Female Chef; pioneer of social gastronomy, Rafael Rincón, received the Icon Award 2022 with Volvo; and standout parrilla Ancestral in La Paz claimed the American Express One To Watch Award 2022.
