It’s a tale of many regions at Animar. Chef Hillel Tavakuli grew up in a Persian-Libyan household, both of which he combines in his restaurant, mixed with the freshness of Mediterranean cuisine and a spice palette from Turkey. With the dishes arriving in all shapes and sizes, from delicate starters and small plates to meze platters and ‘huge’ mains designed for three or four guests to share, Animar’s fare is best experienced in large numbers. Look out for the Çiğ köfte, served as a plateau royale – laid on ice, wrapped in lettuce and topped with grated labneh. The vibe is casual and pared-back, notwithstanding the jaw-dropping panoramic views of Tel Aviv’s beaches through the wide windows. Gentle music wafting over the tables and the relaxed décor set a tranquil atmosphere.
